ephraim_
Tomorrow (or rather later) is the first day of school for my 10th term in UP, and I don't have a notebook yet. I think this will be an interesting semester though, and I would be doing much more than just focusing on academics. I plan to do the following things:

1. Lose weight: I'm at 170 pounds right now, and it's the heaviest I've ever been. I've said yes to two bets already concerning my weight because I need that motivation.

2. Study another language: a drunken day in Davao gave me the ability to speak Bisaya. I can speak and probably carry a conversation but I'm far from fluent.

3. Make jogging a habit: Part of my plan to lose weight. Also, I plan to use jogging as a release for my frustrations. Better than binge-eating.

So there. A few of my plans. And finally, a note to myself before the start of the sem: pagtarong. HAHA.

Good luck to everyone! Hope the sem will be good! :D

Christmas Wish List!

Graphic novels:

- "Elmer" by Gerry Alanguilan

- "The Love Eaters" by Andre Drillon

- The "Trese" series by Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo

- Will Eisner titles: A Life Force, A Contract With God, Dropsie Avenue

- Any book from the "Love and Rockets" series by Gilbert and Jaime Hernandez. I'd particularly like "Flies on the Ceiling" and anything to do witht the village of Palomar.

Things that are not comic books:

- Doc Martens!!! Doc Martens! Red or classic black.

- Marc Jacobs "Daisy" or YSL's "Baby Doll"

- New Mac brown eyeliner

- Shue Uemura make-up remover because I'm almost out of it

- The best moisturizer and primer with SPF in the world. Actually I'm into anything with SPF. I'm alarmed at the freckles that have formed on my face since I moved here (and Asians are not supposed to have freckles unless you are Erica Paredes)

- New hard drive (terrabyte sana)

- Point and shoot camera i can stuff in my pocket and run out the door with. Or a Flip! ehehehe

- Big-ass computer monitor to work on!

- Tickets to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs in Sydney on January 8.

- For Manny Pacquiao to WIN!

- Love, peace, happiness; for all the destruction wrought by typhoons to heal itself; for smooth, clean elections; a noble and non-corrupt new president to lead our country forward; a new pollution-free and sustainable way of living for all humanity; enlightenment and compassion for all humankind.

- For my big goals to come true next year.

COI? [Nov. 8th, 2009|05:10 pm]

[outinspace]
Some subjects on CRS are marked "for X majors only, COI for non-X". I was under the impression that COI meant "certification of instructor", so I asked the instructor handling the elective I wanted if I could get enlisted into it. I wasn't expecting a reply, but she did and I was allowed to get on the class list after I showed the enlistment staff her certification. I finished my 5a, moved on to my 5, and successfully paid for my second semester, including that particular subject. I thought everything was fine.

That was last Wednesday, November 4, though.

When I checked my CRS records last night, I found out that the department had cancelled my slot in that subject last Thursday, November 5. I really don't understand why they did that when:
1. I already had clearance (aka certification) from the professor (aka instructor) in question
2. I've already taken the necessary prerequisite for that subject
and
3. I already confirmed and paid for my slot without any violent reactions from either the department or my home college on the day prior to cancellation.

The only explanation I can think of for this is that COI means something else, but that doesn't seem to make much sense.

Does anybody know why this happened?

Roommate wanted [Nov. 5th, 2009|12:27 am]

peyups

[all_boxed_up]
Ive been in this boardinghouse for almost ten years mainly because monthly rent is cheap, Php 1200, for a four-person studio-type room. secondly, my landlady is very agreeable, respectful of our "rights" as bed-spacers, and lenient when it comes to late rentals (very helpful during my tag-hirap college days). lastly, even though pang-apatan sya, seldom siyang napupuno, so parang may sarili ka ring room for a cheap rent (btw with CR na ito).

As payback sa mabait kong landlady, naghahanap ako ng isang roommate pamalit sa umalis na bed-spacer na di nagpaalam/bumalik or kinuha man lang ang gamit.

For those interested, inquire at #60 Lt. J. Francisco St. Krus na Ligas, gray gate near Laundry Aid & computer shop, brown door to the right. No downpayment

[Current Music |This Providence - To Kill This]

Final schedule

BA 106: Advanced Operations Management
BA 190: Business Policy
BA 129: Management Services / Feasibility Study
PE 2 SCL: Sports Climbing
Physics 10: Physics and Astronomy for Pedestrians
FA 28: Arts in the Philippines

I registered for my last few required classes for my whole college life. Granted I don't fail any of them, this is my last semester in college.

I went ahead and canceled BA 178. Apparently, news spread that I was canceling a class. People were looking for me, hoping to get the slot. I would like to apologize for my lack of ability to wake up before noon when there's no selfish need for me to be at a certain event. Seriously, my propensity to be late all the time is astounding and apalling at the same time. I hope someone else got my slot.

Despite the absence of motivation and "game" last semester, I still managed to maintain a University Scholar grade. That is with BA and Econ subjects. Hopefully, I get to maintain that. Especially since I have general education subjects, AKA stuff I should have taken when I was a freshman/sophomore. Despite the US grade, I am still not happy with my performance last semester. I didn't get to satisfy that need to prove myself. Oh well. I have one last semester. I have to own it.

College students don't make new year's resolutions. New semester resolutions are more apt. Hence, I present mine:
  1. BE ON TIME!
I could not stress this enough, miss. I kept being late for PI 100. I would come in at half-time. WTF. Wake up, earlier.

  2. No more sleeping in class.
This includes naps during exams, even if I find the reactions of the proctors when I wake up from a five-minute nap during my Econ exams. Best naps ever.

  3. Recite like nobody's business.
(Lesson learned. It cost me my grade in PI 100. In my defense, I knew nothing of the topics. But then again, I don't like reciting if I knew somebody else in the room knew the answer. I guess I have to change that, even if it means being more annoying.)

  4. Avoid all-nighters.
Just because I use up concealer like whoa whenever I pull off all-nighters.

  5. Laptops will solely be used for notetaking, not Plants vs. Zombies-ing.
Last one would be hard to keep. I just felt the need to make an odd-numbered list. The rule of odds. I'm also planning to document my final semester. I just realized the lapse in my entries. I was so active during high school and freshman year, then I died. I hope I keep it up, for selfish reasons.

Life update, my laptop got reformatted, the day before the Coke competition. Oh awesome, I didn't get to make pubmats. Claude was the only one who worked on it. All of my photos are gone. My face that day was consistently like the rage fffffffffuuuuuuuuuuu cartoon. D:

Onto more universal things, I'm really devastated over Copeland's break up, just a day after Armor For Sleep. I've liked Copeland since high school. I have memories attached to their songs, beautiful and sad ones. I hope they push through with their final album. Although people claim that You Are My Sunshine was their best, I still hold Beneath The Medicine Tree close to my heart.

Oh, speaking of memories, for some reason I have been digging up Hopesfall stuff. Weren't they amazing? DISCUSS! Or not. LJ is so dead. Anyway, I've been posting stuff in my quasi-music blog over at tumblr. It's so originally and aptly named camilleruivivar.

Network Maintenance - Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 04:00-05:00 GMT/UTC [Oct. 30th, 2009|05:17 pm]

lj_maintenance

[dwell]
EDIT: If you're reading this, our maintenance is OVER! The problem was not found on our equipment, which means we'll have to work with our ISP to fix this small problem -- which also means another maintenance window in the future -- but at least we have eliminated our side.

Thank you everyone, and a special shout out to [info]rekoil for giving me a great suggestion AND also the opportunity to feel like I've just called in to a local radio station.

Have a great day, night or afternoon wherever you may be.

---

Hi everyone, sorry for the late notice but I'm going to have to do some testing on 1 of our 4 internet circuits TONIGHT; Friday night or Saturday morning depending on which time zone you're in.

Most of us shouldn't notice any impact, though there may be some slowness or lag when I switch traffic on to our other ISP circuits and then another hit when I stop the tests. If a page won't load or times out, try hitting refresh 1 or 2 times and it should load then. If it doesn't work at all... trust me, I'll be typing really really really fast to try to undo whatever I just did. Hopefully you'll have some Halloween candy (if you're in the USA and celebrate that kind of thing) nearby to take away the bitterness of a small site outage. :(

Here's the handy-dandy Website That I Always Use to get a feel for when the maintenance will start in your area. Our site traffic historically dips on Friday afternoons until Saturday morning which is why we tend to pick this time for maintenance work.

tech details )

status.livejournal.org will, of course be updated before and after the maintenance window. Or else [info]marta will get mad at me. :D
